“More than a decade after the 1918 Armistice, Arthur Bliss wrote his ‘symphony for orator, chorus and orchestra’, Morning Heroes. The work had grown out of his bitter experience of the Great War, in which his brother Kennard was among the millions of young men who died. In this programme Malcolm Brown draws largely on previously unpublished letters to depict the varied response to the war of Arthur and his brother.”
